Update! Zoom update will require a passcode or a waiting rooms on all meetings (end of 2020)
Update! Zoom will not be enforcing this on September 27, 2020. This will be enforced at the college level at the end of 2020.
For security reasons, Zoom will require all meetings to have a Passcode or a Waiting Room enabled. At Seminole State College Passcodes are on by default. Prior to the end of 2020, you can choose either Passcodes, Waiting Rooms, both, or none. After the end of 2020, you can choose either Passcodes, Waiting Rooms, or both.
What if I don’t have a Waiting Room or Passcode enabled by the end of 2020
If you have a scheduled meeting where you have disabled the passcode and have not enabled the waiting room, Zoom will enable a Waiting Room for your meetings. You will then need to manually admit attendees (such as students) to your meeting.
If I already have a Passcode or Waiting Room enabled, will anything change?
No, your settings will remain the same for your current selection.
How will this affect my calendar invitations when scheduling meetings?
- If you already have a Passcode or Waiting Room on, there will be no change to how you schedule meetings.
- If Passcodes are added, Zoom in Canvas meeting links will automatically update. However, calendar invites for any existing meeting will need to be resent to include the Passcode. New meetings will have the Passcode automatically embedded in the meeting link.
- If Waiting Rooms are enabled, there is no change to how you schedule meetings.
Why enable a Passcode?
If you do not wish to manually admit your students from the Waiting Room, the Passcode option is the best choice as it will automatically admit the student after the host arrives.
